Welcome. And thanks for dropping by to look at some of the work I’ve been doing over the years.
I’m a senior art director, designer and creative director, with experience at leading agencies in Perth and Melbourne. Covering a range of clients from fashion to fertiliser; dairy to brewery; banking to farming; cars to confectionery; fast food to pet treats; and more. I have also had the opportunity to be involved in many high profile and impactful behaviour change communications.
And while I’m proud to say my role in all the work featured on this site is significant, it is not without the collaboration of many talented colleagues, production companies, suppliers and, of course, understanding and trusting clients.
I set up my own freelance business, Ozone Creative Communications, to provide my experience and skills for other agencies, as well as direct to clients. If you’d like to know more, please call me on 0408 683 745 or email to ozonecreative@outlook.com
The Clients: Levantine Hill Winery, Tassal Salmon, Port Phillip Ferries, Slater+Gordon Lawyers, the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP), the Property Council of Australia, Real Estate Institute of Victoria (REIV) and a couple of print tasks for The Shannon Company.
I’ve wanted to highlight an array of media executions; including press/print, outdoor and television/video. In many cases there were extensions into other mediums like digital and social. The constant is a campaign concept and style that enables the message to be translated into whatever format is required.
The Clients: ME Bank, Industry SuperFunds, Ausfund, Cbus Super and AustralianSuper.
I’ve spent over 15 years on various areas of the Industry SuperFunds campaign. From the campaign work through to branding development. Also, with many of the individual funds like Cbus and AustralianSuper shown here, along with HESTA and MTAA. What I’ve shown here is a fragment of what’s been done over that time.
The Clients: FightMND, FireReady (Victoria), Fleetwood/Mt. Gravatt School, ClimateWorks, Bushfire Ready (CFS South Australia), Victorian Farmers Federation, Mother’s Day Classic, WorkSafe sponsorship and Tabcorp.
Easily one of the most fulfilling areas of communications to be involved with. More recently has been working on the FightMND campaign which includes the Big Freeze event. Working with Rod Curtis and Kommunal on this project has been an honour, with responses growing each year. And probably the most impacting campaigns on me personally, was working on the FireReady campaign following the Black Saturday bushfires. Living in the danger zone, we narrowly missed the devastation. But meeting the people that went through it, really drove home the need to prepare. The mobile billboard for “AVOID THE R.I.P.” followed the drownings at Gunnamatta Beach and Tabcorp donated the funds to drive home the message.
The Clients: WorkSafe Victoria, TAC, Victorian Responsible Gambling Foundation, Energy Compare, Vicroads and Worksafe Tasmania.
Working in a company that specialised in behaviour change communications means that many projects are developed through government departments or authorities. These are just a few of those projects.
I designed the WorkSafe logo within the agency and worked on many campaigns with them. The “Homecomings” campaign literally changed the narrative for OH&S. Not only in Victoria, but across the country and even overseas, with an “American-ised” version made for Washington state. (Note: There is no connection with the Worksafe Tasmania work. I was contacted through an agency in Tasmania to help with the project with them not knowing I had worked on the Victorian business.)
The Clients: Electrical Trades Union, Australian Education Union, The CFMEU, Australian Unions (ACTU), RACGP, NSW Nurses Association and the Australian Labor Party.
This may be a contentious section to include, but the area of political/election campaigns requires unique skills. As well as developing sharper thinking and faster responses. I’ve had the opportunity to work on three Victorian and two South Australian state elections and two Federal elections. Mostly successful, but a couple that weren’t.
The experience and skills I learnt through those projects has helped immeasurably with my organisational abilities and broader, speedier thinking for other clients.
The Clients: Cbus Super, Urban Provedore, Melbourne Central, Elders Weekly, Lucky Chicken Eggs, Microsurgery Foundation, and numerous logo designs.
While my career is based as an advertising Art Director, my training originated as a Graphic Designer. Through my journey I’ve been able to keep up that skill set, being able to not only collaborate with design specialists, but also following through with my own.
Shown here are various executions that show how design can be adapted. The Cbus banners were for a convention; Urban Provedore was a trendy café in South Yarra that included the logo, signage, menus, etc.; Melbourne Central and Elders Weekly were Direct Mail pieces that were more than just a brochure; the egg packaging introduced a campaign idea into the design; and the Microsurgery Book was a very targeted piece to help raise funds (this piece won a Silver D&AD award for the well-deserved writer). That’s followed by a collection of my other logo designs.
The Clients: Schmacko’s, TAC, ITP Tax Professionals, Hilton Hosiery, Sandalford Wines, Midas Car Service, Australian Defence Force, Transurban, Clear Solar and Problem Gambling (Victoria).
The expression that “you’re only as good as your last ad” is widely used in the advertising communications industry. However, what makes you good now has much to do with what you’ve done in the past.
These jobs helped build the facets of my craft. To keep focus on the message. To produce it to the best standard you can. To ‘zig’ when others ‘zag’. Entertain. Entice. Engage.
